Amex has sent out the email communication on 16th Nov for the offer as part of which you can get an additional 30% points when you transfer your Amex reward points to Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program.

What is the offer?

As part of the offer, on transferring your Amex reward points to Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, you get additional 30% points which means that instead of the regular 1:1 transfer ratio, you are getting 1:1.3 ratio!!

Usually, the points transfer gets completed within a matter of few minutes but in some cases it may take up to 48 hours for the transfer to be completed.

How to transfer the points?

You just have to follow below steps for transferring the points-

1. Create a Marriott Bonvoy ID here
2. After creating the ID, link it you Amex account by going to this page.
3. The accounts get linked within few minutes post which you can see the points transfer option.
4. Submit the transfer request and wait for few minutes for transfer to get completed

Note: You should provide the correct Marriott Bonvoy ID otherwise the transfer process could fail.

After following the above steps, your regular points + 30% bonus points should be visible in your Marriott Bonvoy account immediately.

My Experience

I have transferred some of my points from Amex Platinum Card to Marriott Bonvoy after getting email communication of this offer and the transfer went smoothly. The 2nd email came 20 minutes later but the points were credited to Marriott Bonvoy account in less than 10 minutes

Should you do it?

If you like Marriott properties and are familiar with the value you can get by redeeming your Amex points for Marriott Bonvoy transfers then just go for it.

The value per point that you get from utilizing the Amex MR points for Marriott Bonvoy can range from 50p – Rs. 1.5 as it totally depends on when you do the booking since Marriott room reward rates are dynamic. Even if we assume the least value of 50p, using this Amex offer you will get at least 65p value per point.

Another way to look at it is to see how many extra free nights you can get this way. If you transfer 2 lakh points, you will get 200000 + 60000 = 2.6 lakh points. For the extra 60000 points, you can easily book 2 nights stay at a 5 star Marriott property during a non-peak season 🙂

Note: Your Marriott Bonvoy points stay active for 2 years from the date of your last activity i.e. your last stay or points usage transaction.

Bottomline

Surprisingly, Amex has given this offer last year as well so it is a bit surprising to see this offer for two consecutive years. But no one is complaining 🙂 This is surely a great offer from Amex and anyone who is interested in Marriott properties should whole heartedly use this golden opportunity to get 30% more value.
