American Express has launched a new program just for their ultra premium top tier cards Amex Platinum charge card and the most famous Centurion card (a.k.a The Black card). This program is called the Reward Xcelerator and it does exactly what their existing program Reward Multiplier does i.e. boosts the reward rate by giving bonus reward points on top of base reward points when you shop for certain brands.

If you hold the Amex Platinum charge card, you can boost the reward rate from 1.25% to 12.5% or all the way up to 25%. Let’s look at how Reward Xcelerator works and how useful it is to boost the reward rate.

What is Reward Xcelerator?

Reward Xcelerator offers a chance to earn reward points at a super accelerated rate i.e. 10x or 20x when you shop using your Amex Platinum charge card or Centurion card at any of the several luxury brands which are part of this program. On shopping at any of the brands part of the 10x or 20x program, you will earn bonus MR points on top of base MR points.

There is no capping on the bonus reward points that you can earn through Reward Xcelerator. Base MR points are credited after the transaction gets posted to the account statement and the fulfilment for Bonus MR points happens within 120 business days from the date of transaction.

Which brands are part of Reward Xcelerator?

There are more than 20 brands & marketplaces that are part of Reward Xcelerator where you can shop either online or in-store. Below is the complete list of brands that you can shop at and get bonus reward points. The list of brands can get updated overtime as Amex might add more partners under this program.

One important thing to note is that for few brands, you only get the bonus points if you make a purchase through offline or online mode as applicable which is highlighted in the table below.

Most of the brands are not really mainstream but Tata CLiQ is part of it which is a great news. On the Tata CLiQ portal you will have access to all sorts of fashion brands like like Forever 21, Puma, AND, W, Vero Moda, etc. Also, there are many Watches & Jewellery brands as well on Tata CLiQ.

Amex also added Air India to this program recently so if you prefer Air India for domestic or international travel, this is a great way for you to accumulate reward points. Booking can be done via Air India website or app.

The great thing about the Reward Xcelerator program is that there is no restriction on earning rate so someone who does regular shopping of luxury products stands to benefit a lot from this. There are some good to know terms & conditions that you should read about –

1. There is no minimum spend required to be avail the offer.
2. There is no capping on the number of rewards points or transactions.
3. The offer is also applicable for Supplementary Card(s).
4. Offer can be combined with any other offer/promotion running on the partner site/store.
5. The offer is applicable on partial payments as well.
6. Purchases of Gold & Silver coins and bar on Tata CLiQ and Tata CLiQ luxury is excluded.
7. Offer is not applicable for select products and services offered at Kapoor Watch Company.
8. Good Earth offer is valid till 31^st March 2024

How to use Reward Xcelerator?

Unlike Reward Multiplier, there is no special process to get the bonus reward points under the Reward Xcelerator program. All you need to do is just visit the website or store of the brands that are part of this program and pay using your Platinum charge card or Centurion card.

Let’s look at the impact on reward rate of these cards with Reward Xcelerator.

To put that into perspective, if you shop on Tata CLiQ for Rs. 20000 using your Platinum charge card, you can save to the tune of Rs. 2500 (5000 points) without any restrictions whatsoever. And on top of that if you get any offers on Tata CLiQ, which is very much possible, you can save even further.

Amex Reward Xcelerator is a great initiative from American Express to give a little extra to their super premium card customers. This program is still in early stages and hopefully we will see more partners getting added to this program which will make this offering even better over time.
